The vault dates from the prewar Delta Phi fraternity days (what could they have used it for?) but was retooled by Herb Grosch when IBM took possession of the building in 1946 to securely store the Los Alamos material – the Lab's first project when it was still in Pupin Hall in 1945. Jim, Jack, and the other Watson Lab vets in this gallery came 3-5 years later and had nothing to do with the A-bomb work.
