From the list compiled in April 2023 by Art Goldstein for the 61st reunion of Yorktown High School's first graduating class. I looked up each name in the 1962 yearbook and corrected a few based on the names given there. Then I looked up each result at VirtualWall.org (the online list of names from the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in DC). There were 8 matches, but 7 of them were too young or too old to have been in the class of '62, and the other was just a different person (see note 2. I also looked up each name in the In Memory Honor Roll (of the men and women who served in the Vietnam War and later died as a result of their service). So it looks like nobody in our class died in or because of Vietnam. Good! Thanks to Art Goldstein and Trudy Harlow (both YHS 1962) for help with this.
P.S. There were casualties in other classes, however; for example Corporal Peter Angle, class of '66 (he's on the Wall).
And Lynda Van Devanter, class of '65, served as nurse at the 71st Evacuation Hospital in Pleiku, 1969-70. She wrote a book about it — Home Before Morning — on which the TV series China Beach was based. She devoted her life to women Vietnam veterans with PTSD until she died in 2002 from Agent Orange poisoning.
