Back yards in the GI-Bill subdivision. We had a Victory Garden in our back
yard but I don't have a picture of it. The war was over but we still called
it a victory garden. We were still living in the wake of the War, carrying
on old habits like saving slivers of soap, eating
Spam for dinner or
sometimes just bread (which my Mom baked from scratch because we couldn't
afford store-bought). We had milk and eggs delivered by local
farmers. Once we forgot to bring the milk in on a hot day and it spoiled.
My Mom was so upset but the next-door neighbor saved the day by showing her
how to make cottage cheese from it.
