A view of part of Manassas Civil War Battlefield that looks almost exactly
like the view I had from the Quonset hut behind Chesterbrook Elementary
School in the early 1950s on hot days when the door was left open for
circulation (looking northeast). The actual battlefield was (and is)
about about 21 miles to the west-southwest. The area around Chesterbrook
school looks nothing like this today but Manassas battlefield hasn't
changed.
Manassas is the site of the two Battles of Bull Run (July 1861 and August
1862), in which about 30,000 people were killed and 18,000 wounded.
