Dad and Mom in Gus's backyard, 1943 or 44. Dad had been living with Gus since 1941, as he commuted to work in the Navy Building in DC. Mom lived in temporary barracks on the National Mall along the Reflecting Pool, just a short walk from the Navy Building, where she worked too. They were married in March 1944 and then in June they moved to their own apartment on 19th Street in the Anacostia section of Washington DC, my first home.
