1950. This photo was labeled "Gus at Al's house" but I'm 98%
certain it is Bess's house, which had a big screened-in back porch that
looked down over a precipitous drop. The view at night of DC was
spectacular. Sometimes we'd go here on the 4th of July to see the
fireworks (other times we'd see them up close from the Lincoln Memorial).
Al's house was on flat ground and was very small with no back porch.
