German coins in use when I lived there (1959-61, 1963-66): 1, 2, 5, 10, and
50 Pfennig; 1 Mark and 5 Marks. Before 1950, Germany was an occupied land
and not a proper country so the coins dated 1949 (like the 10-Pfennig piece
at bottom) said "Bank Deutscher Länder" (bank of the German states).
Starting in 1950 they said "Bundesrepublik Deutschland" (Federal Republic of
Germany). In 1946-1948 some coins still said "Deutsches Reich". Occasionally
I'd also get Nazi-era coins in change, like the one at top right above.
