Epithelium: Simple Squamous Epithelium

#113 Artery, vein and nerve H&E

Open with WebViewer #113 Artery, vein and nerve H&E

All blood vessels are lined by simple squamous epithelium called the endothelium. Examine the endothelial lining of the large artery and vein. At the level of the light microscope the cytoplasm is difficult to visualize the lining cells, however nuclei can be distinguished. In the large muscular artery there is a layer of highly eosinophilic elastic tissue underlying the endothelium. Examine the endothelial lining of other smaller blood vessels in this slide.
