Melodies from the Moongate 2011
FRIDAY, 12/09/11
7:30 PM
Lerner Party Space
Sounds of China presents the first annual Melodies from the Moongate, a mesmerizing fusion concert. This year, be enchanted by our lead musician, Steph Chou, who blends classical traditional Chinese music with western jazz harmonies on the alto saxophone. A graduate of our very own Columbia University, she has performed at prestigious venues alongside numerous renowned jazz musicians in New York, Beijing, and all over the world.
The concert is held in Earl Hall auditorium on the third floor of Earl Hall. The auditorium is most often used for religious services and has a pristine, meditative atmosphere that well suits the poetic harmonies of classical Chinese music. But the low stage platform brings familiar soothing jazz rhythms right to you. Whether you’re a novice to Chinese music or an expert with melodies engrained into your heart, be swept away by the stage adorned by deep aureate curtains which accurately reflect the golden sounds of East meets West harmony.
After the concert, enjoy the reception while mingling amongst inspiring musicians and awed guests. Both admission and reception are free and we welcome everyone to join.
Melodies from the Moongate aims to bring classical Chinese music to Columbia campus. A diverse gamut of organizations support our initiative including the Gatsby Fund, [enter co-sponsors here].
