Description: Reporting to the dean of the Engineering School, the incumbent is responsible for all aspect of finance adminstration and operation of the Engineering school's Gateway Learning Lab which includes 43 SGI Indy computers, one Power Onyx Graphics Supercomputer, one Chanllenge M server, a Scitex IRIS printer, and various video equipment. Manages and maintains a local switched ethernet network, manages all user accounts; writes system programs and scripts; monitors computer performance; performs all disk backups; provides programming assistance; selects, evaluates and maintains all new computer hardware operations; trains and supervises consultants; manages all hardware and software maintenance contracts; maintains familiarity with state-of-the-art computer hardware and software to suggest and implement improvements in computer resource. Trains and supervises workstudies and casuals.
Minimum Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's Degree, preferably in engineering, required. Graduate degree preferred.
Training and Experience: At least three years experience in computer facility management. Strong background in UNIX (preferably IRIX) operating system. Networking (TCP/IP)
Special Requirements: C programming languages and personal computers (IBM & Apple) required. Familiarity with engineering software--graphics, finite-element methods, statistics, simulations, technical document productions, etc required. Ability to perform hardware installation & troubleshooting required.
