Marching up Amsterdam Avenue from Columbia to City College in the period
after the first arrests. I'm in there somewhere. We didn't have a permit
or anything, but we marched up the middle of street a mile to CCNY where we
had a big rally with the students there. This photo was taken at 116th
Street and Amsterdam Avenue, looking southeast; St Lukes Women's hospital is
the light-colored building in the background. The two-story structure left
center is long gone; in 1968 it housed a bookstore, Columbia Spectator, and
an old-fashioned drug store (Hartley Chemists?) with soda fountain and
booths. Photo: Columbia College Today, Spring 1968.
